The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all aspects of schooling including delivery of sport.
Consistent with Queensland Government Roadmap to easing Queensland's restrictions, the department will recommence inter-school and representative school sport activities utilising a staged approach from 10 July 2020.
Resources have been developed to support schools and regions to get ready to recommence training, competitions and programs in a safe, responsible and low risk manner that complies with the latest health advice.
In addition to the Roadmap, the resources align to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment and the Return to Play Guide for Queensland sport, recreation and fitness industries. It is important that planning for sport activities in all stages include consideration of these documents.
The reboot of representative school sport will see implementation of a revised calendar (PDF, 64KB) providing opportunities for students to compete in state championship events across Queensland. Please note some dates and/or venues are still to be confirmed.
The department will continue to provide ongoing communication as the Queensland Government's response to COVID-19 evolves. For latest updates, visit the Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) advice webpage.
This is an opportunity for Queensland students and school communities to get back into the game and get involved!
